Player names

I saw something about using real life names? are you allowed to do that as some players copywrite their names for games ie the old FIFA games never had Ronaldo as a name they had to put player number 9.
So would it be easier to use a random generater?
Also if you use real life names that suggets your going to use real life club names? again would it not be better for people to create their own unique club name make it more personal?

I was going to start with random names then add the option for real names just that would require help from somebody as it would take a lot of time!

Yes but then you know what would happen people would start a poxy tread saying 'Fooking Gerrard isnt rated properly, if joe bloggs is rated such and such john hanck should be such and such' can you see where im going with this?

Nope, it is perfectly legal in copyright law. Some may argue that it is breaching law under the "Right of Publicity", however, under "Right of Publicity" Section 1 it is;

"Protecting the individual from the loss of commercial value resulting from the unauthorized appropriation of an individual's identity for commercial purposes is the principle purpose of this body of law. "

So merely using their name would not be affecting their commercial value. So perfectly legal =]

Personally, I think random names would be best, especially when 'new players' come into the game as youth players (well, they going to have to as players can't play forever

I think Feralis was correct that some would start to claim that x player isn't rated properly.. this one should be rated like that etc..
Random players, they won't have a leg to stand on about stats...
