Match Engine? Basic or Advanced
Ok for the match engine, should I start with a basic one then make an advanced on later or should I just jump straight into the advanced one. The basic one will take a couple of days and advanced will take around a week.
Advanced will ultimately be the one used, unless you wish to use the basic one that is.

Re: Match Engine? Basic or Advanced
Can the basic one not be expanded upon, or is that harder than just going all in on an advanced one?
Re: Match Engine? Basic or Advanced
Well the logic behind the 2 are different. Let me explain how it would work for each...
Basic;
Work out possession
Calculate attack and defence
Subtract defence from attack
random between 0 and difference
If it's higher than certain value then it's a shot
Check if its on target (Based on shooting ability, plus others)
Check if it's a goal (Based on that player and the GK)
So it's not actually run like a football game, but you won't notice the difference.
Advanced;
Home team kicks off
Check who has the ball
Are they near another player?
Will they pass?
- Who to?
- Is it intercepted?
- Are they tacked?
- How was tackle?
- Any cards?
- Any injuries?
Will they move? (If so, where to?)
Will they shoot? (Based on distance, etc, closer they are higher shooting chance, unless told to attempt long shots in your line-up)
Does it score?
Calculate real time of this (A formula based on their speed, how far they kick the ball, how long they run, etc.)
loop (Until 90mins + ET)
The advanced version I have cut down purely for writing it all here.
As you can see the advanced version is highly advanced and actually mimics a real life match.

Re: Match Engine? Basic or Advanced
Basic could be exploited by managers easily.. but only if they knew the system
Being honest, if there was a between, then, like Feralis said, start there; And expand as you go along..
It'll be worth the wait too if you could go the full hog rather than rush a basic one out..

Well the first one wouldn't be exploited because all they know is stats not formulas or anything, plus hidden stats would be taken into consideration which would make quite a difference on the game, both will have a random factor in them otherwise it would be boring and predictable, just the advanced one will be more realistically run, but users won't know either way, they will see very similar things just the basic one won't be as accurate etc.
I've actually started coding the site for your users to use etc. I have a basic template which I doubt I'll use as the default but it will be sufficient for now. Once I got the register page up I'll post a link so we can all start testing the test league
